Paramount General Store

You can find us up on the second floor of the New Cloth Market on Sarangpur Road. It is a bit of a climb, but people know where we are. Being in Ahmedabad, especially in a place like this cloth market, means things are always moving. We have all kinds of general items that the other shopkeepers and workers around here need. It is not a big shop with glass windows, just a solid space filled with inventory. I have worked here for a long time and seen the market change. The hallways can be narrow and crowded with bundles of fabric, but our store is a little corner of routine. We keep things pretty simple. If we have it, it is on the shelf; if we do not, we tell you. No fancy sales talk here. My nephew helps me with the heavy lifting because some of the boxes get quite weighted down. We deal with the heat like everyone else, just keeping the fan on and working through the day. Sometimes the elevator in the building acts up, so we end up carrying things up the stairs. It keeps us fit, I guess. We are not trying to be the biggest store in the city. We just want to make sure the people in this building have what they need without having to go all the way down to the street. It is just how we run things.
