New Taj Hair Art. Our place is in the Asrafy Complex in Jamalpur, Ahmedabad. It’s right across from the Apmcs Market, so you can imagine how busy it gets around here. There are trucks and people moving goods all day long. Because we are near the market, we get a lot of people who work there coming in for a quick haircut when they have a break from their stalls. The shop stays open for long hours because the market never seems to sleep, even early in the morning. Inside New Taj Hair Art, things are pretty straightforward. We have a few chairs and the basic tools we need. It’s often loud outside with the shouting of vendors and the sound of engines, but we are used to it by now. Jamalpur is a crowded part of the city but it has a lot of energy that we like. We’ve been in Asrafy Complex for years and most of the other shopkeepers are like friends to us. We drink tea together and watch the crowds go by when we have a few minutes of peace. We don’t have a lot of bells and whistles here. It’s just a place to get your hair cut by people who have been doing it for a long time. The floor is usually covered in hair until we sweep at night, and the smell of shaving cream is always in the air. We focus on the job and making sure the shop stays open for everyone who needs us.
