If you know Sadar Bazar, you know how crowded it gets, and our place is right in the thick of it at 13/4510, Pahari Dhiraj. Nand Kishore Vijay Kumar has been operating out of this spot for a long time. It’s a traditional setup, the kind where we have stacks of goods reaching up to the ceiling and barely enough room to walk between the aisles. We deal with a lot of wholesale buyers who come in from all over. The morning starts early here because the market wakes up before most of the city. We spend our time counting stock, writing out manual receipts, and talking to the porters who move the bags around. It’s a noisy, chaotic environment, but we’ve learned how to find exactly what a customer wants in just a few minutes. We don't have a fancy office or air conditioning; we just have a couple of fans and a lot of energy to keep up with the pace. Some days the narrow lanes of Pahari Dhiraj are so blocked that it takes forever to get a delivery out, but that’s just Sadar Bazar for you. We don't spend money on marketing because the people who need our goods know where we are. It’s a family-style way of doing things, passed down and kept going through hard work and long hours. We close up tired but ready to do it again the next day.
