Our workshop is at L-82 in the G.I.D.C. estate, which is exactly the kind of place you would expect for an engineering outfit. There is always the smell of cutting oil and the sound of machines humming in the background. It is not a place for clean clothes. Most of us go home with some kind of grease on our shirts every single day. We’ve been in this particular spot for a long time, and we know all the other shop owners on the block. If we are missing a tool, someone next door usually has it, and we do the same for them. It’s a rough and ready environment, but it works for what we do. We don’t have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy letters. We just take the drawings people bring in and try to make the parts fit. Sometimes the power goes out in the estate and we all just sit outside and wait for it to come back on. Those are the times we actually get to talk about things other than work. The office part is just a small desk in the corner with a computer that’s a bit too slow, but it handles the billing well enough. We don't need much else to keep the doors open and the machines turning. It is just steady, daily engineering work.
