Maya Hair Dresser

Maya Hair Dresser is a small shop located at Shop No 7 in the Anand Complex. We are right on the Hirabaug Railway Crossing Road in the Ambawadi area. If you know where Kalyan Jewellers is, we are just behind them. The railway crossing is a major part of our daily life here. We hear the whistles and the clatter of the trains all through the day and night. Sometimes when the gates are closed, people who are stuck in traffic just park their bikes and come in for a quick shave to pass the time. It’s a very local atmosphere. The shop itself is quite modest and has been the same for years. We haven't changed the furniture or the layout much because it works just fine for us. Ambawadi is a nice neighborhood with a lot of long-time residents who have been coming to us since they were children. Now they bring their own kids. We don't have any corporate rules or fancy uniforms. We just wear our regular clothes and talk to people like they are our friends, because most of them are. The walls have some old calendars and the floor is a bit stained from years of work, but we keep it swept as much as we can. It’s just a small corner of the world where we do our job and try to be part of the community. We stay open late for those coming home from work on the trains.
