Kumkum Beauty Parlour

Kumkum Beauty Parlour is down in the basement of the Nand Kishor building. Shop number 3 is where you will find us on Narayannagar Road in Paldi. Being in a basement is actually quite nice during the hot Ahmedabad summers because it stays much cooler than the shops up at street level. You have to watch your step coming down the stairs, but once you are inside, it is quite calm and quiet. We have been in this basement spot for a long time now. It is not a huge shop, but we have enough room for the essentials. The lighting has to be bright since we do not get much natural sun, but it works for the kind of work we do. I like the sound of the cars passing by above us; it is like a dull hum in the background. People on Narayannagar Road usually know we are here because of the sign we keep on the sidewalk. We have many local families who come to us for their needs. I have known some of these ladies for many years. We talk about our families and the latest neighborhood news while I work. The shop has a simple tile floor that I mop every single morning. Everything has its own place, even if it is a bit crowded with all the supplies we need to keep on hand.
