If you go outside Dariapur Darwaja and head towards Bardolpura, you’ll find us in Gujarat Udyognagar. Our unit is number 27. It’s a proper industrial area, so there is always the sound of machines and people moving stuff around. We’ve spent many years in this workshop. The walls have seen a lot of metalwork and grease over the seasons. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, especially when the machines have been running since morning. We do various engineering tasks, mostly fixing things or making parts that people bring in sketches for. It is not the cleanest work, our hands are usually stained with oil by lunch. We know the neighbors well, everybody is doing something similar in this row of units. Sometimes we stand out by the gate just to catch a bit of air when it gets too stuffy inside. The floor is concrete and has some cracks, but it holds up the heavy equipment just fine. We don't have a big office or anything, just a desk in the corner with piles of old papers and a telephone that rings when someone needs a job done. It's a simple life here in the udyognagar. We just focus on getting the measurements right and making sure the machines stay oiled. It's what we know how to do.
