H B Kapadia New High School sits on Gurukul Road in Memnagar. If you have spent any time in Ahmedabad, you know this part of town gets quite lively. Our school is right in the middle of it. We have been here for a long time, watching the city change around us. Students arrive early in the morning, usually on cycles or their parents’ scooters. The halls get pretty noisy between periods, which is expected with so many teenagers around. It’s a big building, and we use every corner of it for something or other. Teachers are always carrying stacks of papers, and you can hear the bells ringing throughout the day. We don’t have any grand speeches about what we do. It’s just a place for learning. The neighborhood has grown a lot since we started, but the school stays mostly the same. We have the usual classrooms, a playground that sees a lot of action during lunch breaks, and an office that’s always a bit cluttered. We deal with the daily stuff like attendance and exams without making a big fuss. It’s a solid part of the Memnagar community. Most people around here went to school here or know someone who did. We just keep the doors open and the classes running. It’s a lot of work, but it’s what we do here in Ahmedabad.
