Glass Mine

You can find us over at Habib Park, right near the Navrang Tenament on Sarkhej Road. We’ve been at this number 7 unit for quite some time now. Dealing with glass is a bit different than other materials because you always have to be careful where you step and how you move things. The shop floor is usually filled with crates and cut pieces waiting to go out. We don't have a big showroom or anything like that. It’s more of a working warehouse where we get things sized and ready. The guys who work here have pretty steady hands, which you need in this line of work. Sarkhej Road is always humming with activity, so there’s never a dull moment outside our doors. We get a lot of dust from the road, so we're constantly wiping down the glass to keep it clear. It’s a lot of manual labor, lifting and loading, but we’ve got a good system down by now. Our office is just a small corner partitioned off with some plywood where we keep the invoices. We drink a lot of chai during the day to keep going. There isn't any fancy branding on the walls, just some old calendars and a clock that’s five minutes fast. We just try to get the orders right and make sure nothing breaks on the way to the customer. It’s a simple life, focused on the glass and getting the work done before the sun goes down. Most of the time we're just sweeping up shards.
