Dil Khush Hair Art

Dil Khush Hair Art is located in Narayan Kunj, which sits right opposite the Chisti Chambers. We are just outside the Shahpur Gate in the Shahpur area of Ahmedabad. It is an old part of the city, and you can feel that history when you walk around the streets here. The shop is a simple one. We do not have any of those modern gadgets or fancy reclining chairs that cost a fortune. What we do have is a couple of solid chairs and enough light to see what we are doing. The breeze from the gate sometimes brings in a bit of dust, so the broom is always leaning against the wall ready for use. We see a lot of people who have been living in Shahpur their whole lives. They come in for a shave or a quick trim and we talk about how the neighborhood has changed over the years. It is a small space, so it can get a bit crowded if three or four people are waiting at the same time, but nobody seems to mind leaning against the wall for a chat. We keep the water jars filled and the towels stacked up. It is a humble spot, nothing like the big salons you find in the newer parts of Ahmedabad. We just stay focused on the work and try to keep a steady hand. It is honest work in a busy part of town, and we like it that way.
