City Girl Beauty Parlour

Up on the first floor of 7 New Prashant Park Society, things are a bit quieter than on the street. We are in Vejalpur, right across from the Vastrapur Railway Crossing. You can hear the train horn pretty clearly when it goes by. City Girl Beauty Parlour isn't one of those high-end places you see in the malls. It’s more of a local spot where the ladies from the society and nearby areas come to get their eyebrows done or a hair wash. We’ve got a few rooms partitioned off for privacy. The curtains are a bit faded from the sun coming through the windows, but they do the job. It’s mostly just us working here, keeping track of who needs what. Sometimes we run out of a specific thread color or a certain cream, but we get more from the market quickly. We talk a lot while we work—about kids, school, or what to cook for dinner. It’s a comfortable place, even if the chairs aren't the newest. We try to keep the mirrors clean, though the humidity makes them foggy sometimes. Being in Vejalpur, we see the neighborhood changing, but our little shop stays pretty much the same. People know where to find us when they need to look a bit tidier for a wedding or a party. We just keep our heads down and work as best as we can.
