Our place, Chioce Hair And Care, is tucked into the Palak Shopping Center. We are right opposite the Nirnay Nagar Garnala, so it can get quite loud with the trucks and cars going through the underpass all day. Ghatlodia is a crowded part of town, and the shopping center is usually full of people running their daily errands. Being near Umiya Hall, there’s always something happening, like a wedding or some community event, which brings a lot of foot traffic past our windows. Inside, the shop is fairly small and basic. We have enough space for the basic equipment and a few chairs for people to sit while they wait. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint eventually, but they hold the pictures of different hairstyles well enough for now. We see a lot of people from the nearby apartments. Some have been coming since the day we first opened. It’s a bit of a routine for us—open the shutters, sweep the front, and wait for the first customer to arrive. It’s just a hair shop where you can sit down and get a shave or a cut without any fuss. The mirrors are big, and the chairs are the old-fashioned heavy kind that last forever.
