Bhagyoday Stores

This shop is located at 530, right inside the Delhi Gate in Ahmedabad. It is a very old part of the city with narrow streets and lots of history all around us. The building itself has thick walls that have seen many years. We keep the store stocked with all the basic things people need for their homes. There are stacks of notebooks, different kinds of grains in open bags, and rows of bottled liquids. It gets very crowded in this area during the day with all the rickshaws and people walking to the markets. We have to be very organized because the shop isn't very large. We spend our time talking to the people who come in and helping them find what they are looking for. The air inside smells like a mix of spices and old wood. We don't use any computers, just a simple book to keep track of what we buy and sell. The light from the street comes in through the front door and lights up the floor. We have some old wooden drawers behind the counter where we keep the smaller items like sewing kits or matches. It is a busy life but we are used to the noise and the constant movement outside. We open up early and don't head home until the sun is long gone. It is a solid way to make a living.
