Akhil General Store

My name is on the sign for Akhil General Store and I have been working here in Ahmedabad 380001 for a long time. This is a basic shop where we keep the essentials for the families living nearby. We carry grains, spices, oils, and all the small things like batteries or pens. The building is old and the floors are a bit worn down from people coming in and out all day. I don't really have a big staff, just a couple of us who take turns watching the counter and checking the inventory. Some days are very slow, especially during the afternoon heat when nobody wants to be out on the street. That is when we usually count the stock or fix the displays. Other times, it is so busy we can barely keep up with the weighing and packing. We use old-style registers and write things down in a notebook when we need to remember an order. It’s not like those big supermarkets you see now. We know everyone’s name and we know which brand of tea they prefer. It is a lot of work to keep everything clean because of the dust from the road, but we manage. We just want to make sure that when someone comes in for a bag of sugar, we actually have it on the shelf. That is the main goal every day. It’s just how we do things here.
