Akbarallys General Stores has its spot in Ahmedabad, down in the 380001 zip code area. We’ve seen the streets change quite a bit over the years. This isn't one of those new malls with bright lights and music playing. It’s just a regular store where we sell the basics. We carry things for the kitchen and items for the house that people need every day. The layout is a little cramped because we try to fit as much as possible on the wooden shelves. It can get a bit hectic in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work and stops in for milk or matches. We try to keep things organized but sometimes a box of biscuits ends up where the spices should be. That’s just how it goes when you’re busy. We don’t have a big team of people, just a few of us making sure everything is handled. The floor is old stone and it shows its age, but it’s sturdy. We talk to the customers about their families or what’s happening in the news while we bag up their purchases. It’s a slow way of doing business compared to the internet, but it works for us.
