Aishwarya Sarees

Being at No. 127 Ratanpole means we are right in the middle of everything. If you know this area, you know how busy it gets with all the people shopping for sarees. Our space is usually filled with stacks of different fabrics and bright colors everywhere you look. It is a bit of a squeeze sometimes because we try to keep so much variety on hand. We spend most of our time unfolding and folding things back up for people. It’s hard work on the arms after a few hours. Aishwarya Sarees is just a local place where we know the trade. We aren't trying to be some big brand. We just like the feel of the cloth and seeing the different patterns come in every week. The street outside is always loud with scooters and people shouting, but inside we just focus on the work. Sometimes we drink too much chai while waiting for the morning rush to start. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling and I usually need the ladder three or four times an hour. It’s a bit dusty because of the old building but we clean it every morning before opening the shutters. We’ve been here long enough that the walls feel like home. It is a simple way to spend the day and we wouldn't change it. We just keep things moving and try to stay organized as much as we can.
