A. K. Hair

Our shop, A. K. Hair, is located at Shop No. 1 in Vadwala Nagar. We are quite close to the Sonal Cross Roads in Memnagar, right across from Prit Apartment. Zed School is also nearby, which brings a lot of life to the street during the day. This isn't one of those modern salons you see in the malls. It’s just a small shop on the ground floor of the building. We’ve been here for a long time, and the neighborhood feels like family to us. The space inside is tight, especially when we have three or four people waiting, but we make it work. We have a couple of chairs that have been re-covered a few times because they get so much use. The street outside is usually lined with parked scooters and people walking to the school. We don't bother with much decoration; we just have some pictures of different hairstyles on the wall that have been there since we opened. We spend our days cutting hair and listening to the radio. Sometimes the neighbors come in just to say hello even if they don't need a haircut. It’s a simple way to make a living. The area around Sonal Cross Roads is always moving, but inside our shop, things go at a slower pace. We just focus on the person in the chair and try to do a decent job every time. Sometimes the scissors need sharpening and the lights flicker, but it’s our place.
