Urban Ponics Llp

Up on the 10th floor of the Luxuria Business Hub in Surat, you’ll find Urban Ponics Llp. It’s right near the Y Junction on the Dumas Main Road. It’s a bit of a weird place for a farming-related business, being so high up in a modern building, but that’s the whole point. We are looking at how to grow things in the city where there isn’t much dirt to work with. The view from the office is pretty great, you can see the traffic moving down below and the city spreading out towards the coast. It’s a lot of glass and metal here, very different from a traditional farm. We spend our days working with hydroponic systems and trying to figure out the best way to keep plants healthy in an indoor environment. Sometimes the elevators are slow, which is annoying when you’re in a hurry. We aren't some big tech company with millions in the bank; we’re just a small team trying out new ways to grow food. It’s a lot of plumbing and checking lights, to be honest. It’s not as clean and pretty as the brochures for urban farming make it look. There’s always a leak to fix or a pump that’s making a funny noise. But it’s interesting work, and it’s nice to see something green growing in the middle of all the concrete in Surat. We just keep tinkering with the pipes until it works.
