We are based in the Nizar area of Surat, right in a place called Mandir Faliyu. Shashikant Govindsing Girase is the one who looks after things at this location. It’s a fairly quiet spot, tucked away in the village area where you can really feel the connection to the land. Our group, Shashiyog Krushi Vikas, was started to help improve the way we do agriculture around here. We are all farmers ourselves, so we know exactly how hard it is to make a living from the soil in Gujarat. In Mandir Faliyu, life moves at its own pace. We meet up frequently to talk about how the crops are doing and what we can do to make the next season better. It’s not a corporate office with air conditioning; it’s just a place where we gather, share a tea, and figure out the logistics of our farming work. Being in Nizar means we are a bit far from the main Surat city, but that suits us fine because our work is here in the fields. We handle everything from seeds to the final harvest, trying to keep things as efficient as we can for the members of our producer company. There’s a lot of tradition in how we farm, but we also try to learn new things when we can. It’s a community effort more than anything else, and we take pride in just getting the work done without making a big fuss about it.
