Gaumaiya Farmer Producer Company Limited is based out of Karmanbhai Narsungbhai Gelotar’s place in Lavana. It’s not a big office building or anything fancy like you see in the city. It’s just a house in the village where we handle the business. Deodar is a quiet area and most of us spend our days out in the fields or with the animals. The Banaskantha sun gets really hot in the afternoons so we usually meet up early or late in the day. We are just a bunch of local farmers who decided to pool our resources together. It gets tiring trying to sell your harvest on your own and getting a bad deal every time. We figured if we worked as one group we might have a better chance of making a living. There’s a lot of dust on the roads and the work is heavy. We don't have a marketing team or someone to write nice speeches. We just know how to grow things and take care of the soil. Karmanbhai keeps the records and we try to keep track of who needs what for the next season. Sometimes the paperwork gets confusing because we’d rather be outside. If you walk through Lavana and ask for the farmer group, someone will lead you to the house. It's a simple setup with some old desks and a lot of talk about crop prices and weather. That's basically us. We’re just trying to get by.
