The school building isn't anything modern or shiny, just a solid place where classes happen every day. Most of us who work here live nearby, so we know the streets and the people quite well. The office is small and usually has a few people coming in and out to ask questions or drop off papers for their children. We spend a lot of time on the basic tasks that keep a school moving, like keeping track of attendance and making sure the building stays in good shape. It’s a busy place when the bell rings and the students are moving between rooms. Nagla Ajeeta is a lived-in kind of place, and we fit right into that. There is a lot of dust during the dry season and we have to sweep the floors often to keep it clean. We don’t have a lot of fancy words to describe what we do here. We just open up in the morning, do the teaching, and close up in the evening. It’s a regular part of life here in Agra. We have some old trees in the yard that give a bit of shade during the hottest parts of the day when the sun is really beating down. The gate squeaks a bit when you open it.
