Gyan Bharti Inter College

We’ve been here in Rajpur for a long time now, just working out of this building in Agra. It’s not a very fancy place, but it gets the job done for the local families. Most of us who work at Gyan Bharti Inter College live just a few streets away, so we know the parents and the grandparents too. Every morning starts about the same way with the sound of the main gate creaking open and the kids trickling in from the neighborhood. Some come on cycles and others just walk. The summers in Agra are really something else, so we try to get the heavy work done before the heat really kicks in by midday. The fans in the classrooms hum all day long. We spend a lot of time just keeping things moving, making sure the registers are marked and the lessons are finished. It’s a lot of paperwork sometimes, more than you’d think. The building has seen better days, maybe needs a new coat of paint, but it feels like home to us. We don’t have a big fancy office or anything like that. Just some desks, some old wooden chairs, and a lot of chalk dust everywhere. It’s just a regular part of life here in this corner of the city. We see the kids grow up from small children into young adults before they head off to whatever is next for them. It’s just how it goes year after year.
