Venkateshwara Earth Movers

Out here in Kundaram, things are usually quiet unless we’ve got the machines running. Venkateshwara Earth Movers is based right out of my home at H. No. 5-38. It’s a small village in Jaipur mandal, so everyone knows where to find us if they need some heavy lifting done. We’ve got a couple of machines that take up most of our time. Usually, my mornings are spent checking oil levels and greasing the joints on the equipment. It’s messy work, but if you don’t do it, the machines won’t last long in this dust. We do a lot of work for the local farmers or when someone is building a new house foundation. It’s not a glamorous job, sitting in a cab for ten hours a day, but it’s what we do. The weather really dictates our schedule. If it rains too much, the ground gets soft and we can’t move anything without getting stuck. Then we just sit around the house and wait for things to dry out. We don’t have a big staff or a fancy office with air conditioning. It’s just me and a couple of helpers sometimes. We handle the paperwork on the kitchen table after the sun goes down. People just walk up to the door and ask if we're free next Tuesday. We tell them yes or no based on what’s already on the calendar. That’s how things work around here in the district.
