Panchadwip Farmer Producer Company Limited

Living out here in Sagar is different from the mainland. We are located in Harinbari village, right at Pintu Giri’s place. If you know the area, it’s not hard to find. Panchadwip Farmer Producer Company was set up by a bunch of us who live and work right here. Being on the island means we have to think about the tides and the ferry schedule when we want to get anything done. Most days, you will find us out in the fields or sitting around a table trying to figure out the best way to get our produce to the markets. Pintu’s house is where we keep the paperwork, though we’d much rather be outside. It gets windy here, and the salt in the air affects everything we grow. We have seen good years and bad ones, just like anyone else. We don’t have fancy uniforms or a polished way of speaking. We just talk like regular people because that is what we are. There’s always someone stopping by to ask about seeds or to complain about the price of fertilizer. We listen and try to help where we can without making it a big deal. The work is dusty and tiring, but at the end of the day, it feels right to be working with the land. We just want to keep things going for our families and the other folks in Harinbari. It is a long day’s work, but we are used to it by now.
