Moushuni Island Farmers Producer Company Limited

Living on Moushuni Island is different from the mainland. We are the Moushuni Island Farmers Producer Company Limited. Our office, if you can call it that, is in Bagdanga village. It’s right by the Fresarganj Coastal area in South 24 Parganas. Being so close to the water means we have to deal with salt in the soil and the wind. It makes farming a bit of a gamble sometimes. We are just a bunch of local farmers who thought it would be better to work together than alone. We handle the paperwork and the selling from Bagdanga. You won't find any fancy signs or big gates here. It’s just us, sitting around and trying to figure out how to get our crops to the markets across the water. The tides dictate a lot of our schedule. If the water is high or the weather is bad, things slow down. We grow a variety of things, whatever the land allows. Most of the people here have been farming since they were kids. It’s what we know. We don't use big words or have complicated plans. We just want to make sure the hard work we put into the ground pays off at the end of the season. It’s a quiet life in South 24 Parganas, mostly just the sound of the wind and people working. We are proud of what we do even if it's hard.
