Down in Tiorkhali, things move a little slower than in the big city. We set up the Bhagabanpur-Ii Farmer Producer Company right here in the village to be close to the actual work. If you are looking for us, we are over at Room B-69, which is inside Rinu Bera’s place. It is just a simple room where we sit down and try to figure out what the local farmers need for the coming season. Being in the Bhupati Nagar area means we are surrounded by fields and people who have been farming for generations. We are not a big company with a lot of money or a bunch of suits. We are just a group of people from the village trying to organize things a bit better than they were before. Sometimes we talk about seeds, other times it is just about the weather or why the prices are going up and down at the market. It gets pretty dusty in the summer and the old ceiling fans just move the hot air around, but we stay at it. Everyone knows everyone else here, so there is a lot of chatting outside the door before any real work gets done. We handle the paperwork for the producer group and try to keep track of what everyone is growing in their plots. It is a lot of manual work and scribbling in old notebooks. The village life is honest, and that is how we run things in Tiorkhali.
