Purbasha Women Primary Producer Company Limited

We are based in Rupamari village, right in the Hingalganj block. It’s near Hasnabad in the North 24 Parganas district. This company, Purbasha, is made up of women from around here who wanted to do something together. We are a primary producer company, which means we work with the things we grow and make in our local area. It’s a lot of responsibility, and we’re still learning some of the business parts of it. The office is just a plain room where we keep our registers and meet after we finish our work in the fields or at home. We talk about the prices and how to get our goods to the market. Sometimes the tide or the rain makes it hard to move things because of where we are situated near the water. We don’t have a lot of money for advertising or anything like that. We just rely on the work we do. It’s important for us because it gives the women here a bit of their own money and a say in how things are run. We spend a lot of time making sure the quality is okay and that everyone is doing their part. It isn't always smooth, and we have our fair share of arguments, but we always figure it out. It’s just how things work in a small place like Rupamari. We take pride in the fact that we can do this for ourselves.
