Gaighata Krishikranti Farmars Producer Company Limited

Our group is based in Karola, near Thakurnagar. You can find us at Mihir Kumar Nag’s house. Gaighata Krishikranti Farmars Producer Company Limited is what we call ourselves. Around North 24 Parganas, farming is what most people know. We grow a bit of everything here. The soil is okay, but it takes a lot of care. We have a lot of small farmers in this part of West Bengal. We realized that if we don't work together, the middleman takes everything. So we started this. It’s a lot of meetings under the trees or in the small office space we have in Chikanpara. We talk about the weather mostly. If the rain is late, everyone gets worried. We try to help each other out with equipment or finding better seeds. It isn't always smooth. Sometimes we argue about which crops will sell better. But at the end of the day, we are all neighbors. We’ve known each other for years. Our families live right next to the fields. We don't use big words or have fancy brochures. We just want to make sure we can keep our farms running. It’s a simple life but it's ours. We keep the books as best as we can. Farming is what we do, and being together as a producer company just makes sense for us folks in Gaighata. It keeps us busy and hopefully keeps our pockets from being empty.
