Ghatanji is where we live and work. Waghadi Jaivik Sheti Mission Farmer Producer Company Limited is basically run out of Shri Narayan Gulab Bhoyar’s place. "Jaivik" means organic, but to us, it just means farming like our grandfathers did before all the new stuff came along. We spend a lot of time out in the heat. Ghatanji gets very warm in the summer months. We handle all the logistics of getting seeds and looking after the plants ourselves. Sometimes things go wrong, like a machine breaking down or the pests getting into a patch of vegetables. We don't have a corporate office with air conditioning. Our office is the porch or the shade under a tree. We talk to other farmers in the area and try to help each other out when the harvest is ready. It’s a lot of manual labor, and our backs often ache by the end of the week. But there is a certain kind of peace in seeing things grow from the dirt. We aren't looking to get famous or anything. We just want to keep the soil healthy for the next generation. Shri Narayan’s house is always busy with someone coming or going. We usually have some tea ready for anyone who stops by to chat about the crops.
