Up here in Tiwarang, life is mostly about the rhythm of the seasons. Our group, Bhukranti Farmers Producer Company, operates out of a space cared for by Shri Sharad Baliram Kanwav. It is a simple setup because we would rather spend our time out in the dirt than sitting behind a desk. Yavatmal is a place where you have to be tough because the weather can be a bit unpredictable. We all know each other here in Mahagaon taluka, so starting this company was just a natural thing to do. We talk about what crops are doing well and try to help the smaller guys get a fair shake. It is not a polished operation at all. Sometimes the paperwork gets a bit messy, and the chairs in the office are old, but we get the job done. We handle things like seeds and sharing tools between us. It saves a lot of trouble when you have neighbors you can trust. Most days, you will find a couple of us standing around the doorway talking about the cost of fertilizer or the latest news from the market.
