West Punjabi Bagh is a quiet enough spot but finding the right gate at 9/81 can be a bit tricky if you aren't looking closely. We have been here at Vener & Corporation for a long time now. Most of the desks are older wood and there is usually a stack of ledgers near the front door. We don't have a big reception area or anything like that. It is just a place where we get the daily work finished and make sure the phone gets answered when it rings. Some of us have been working together for over a decade. In the mornings, the street is pretty calm before the main traffic starts up on the nearby roads. We usually start around nine or so. Someone usually brings in tea around mid-morning. It is not fancy here, but the walls are sturdy and the roof doesn't leak during the monsoon. We spend most of the day looking at lists and talking to the people we’ve known for years. Sometimes the power goes out and we just wait it out or chat until it comes back on. It is a steady way to spend the week. We keep the files organized in those tall metal cabinets against the back wall. Every year we say we will clear out the old papers, but they just stay there. It feels like a second home to most of us because we spend more time here than anywhere else.
