Tilak General Store

Tilak Nagar is a very crowded place, and our shop is right in the heart of it at Shop Number 17/37. We are in the Old Market area of Delhi. If you know the market, you know how packed it gets, especially during festivals. Space is very tight here. We have to stack the boxes all the way to the ceiling. Sometimes I need a ladder just to get a packet of tea for a customer. Delhi weather is extreme, so we deal with the heat and the cold as they come. The shop is old, with stone floors that have worn down over the years. We sell mostly daily grocery items. People from the nearby streets come here because they know we have what they need. There is no space for standing around, so it’s usually quick service. I have a couple of boys who help with the heavy lifting and deliveries to the nearby houses. We use those small trolleys to move stuff around because the lanes are too thin for cars. Every day is the same routine. Open the locks, pray, and start serving. It’s loud, it’s dusty, but it’s home. We don’t do any advertising. People just know Tilak General Store is here in the Old Market. It’s been that way for a long time. We try to keep our prices fair for everyone. Dealing with hundreds of people a day is just how it goes here.
