Uttam Nagar is always busy, and our shop is right in the middle of it. We have been here for a while now, selling all kinds of steel pots, pans, and kitchen things. When we open the shutters in the morning, the dust from the road usually settles on the display, so the first thing we do is wipe down the stainless steel. It’s a lot of work because we have stacks of tiffins and pressure cookers piled up high. Most people who come in are looking for something specific, like a heavy kadhai or just a small spoon because they lost one from their set. We don’t have fancy lighting or anything like that. It is just a regular shop with shelves full of metal stuff. Sometimes it gets really hot in here during the summer months, but we just keep the fan going and wait for the next customer. People around here know us by name, and we know them too. We talk about the weather or the price of things while they decide which size of pot is right for their family. It isn’t anything fancy, just a local place where you can get what you need for your kitchen without a lot of fuss. We spend most of our day moving boxes and organizing the spoons so they don’t get all mixed up in the bins. It’s just how things go here in Uttam Nagar every day for Shri Anand Barten.
