Our shop is at Number 3 on New Majid Street. It’s right near the old Krishna Theatre, so it’s a landmark everyone knows around here. We’ve got a bit of everything on the shelves. It’s one of those places where things are stacked high because we don't have a lot of floor space. We sell daily necessities, so there is always someone coming in for soap or sugar or a packet of biscuits. It gets really busy when a show lets out at the theatre, even though it’s not as crowded as it used to be. The street is narrow and there are always scooters parked out front. We know most of the people who come in by their first names. It’s a family-run kind of thing, so you might see different people behind the counter depending on the time of day. We don't have a computer system for the stock, we just look at the shelf and see what’s missing. It’s a bit old-fashioned but it works for us. Sometimes the cat from next door comes in to sleep on a sack of rice, and we have to shoo it out. It’s just a normal neighborhood store where people buy what they need for the day. We stay open late because that’s when people remember they forgot something. We keep a small radio on the shelf to listen to the news while we wait for the next customer to walk through the door.
