About Char Kula Art Academy – Art & Craft in West Delhi
At D-2/157 in Jeevan Park on Pankha Road, things are usually a bit more colorful than the other shops nearby. This is where we do all our art stuff. It’s often a bit messy because of the paints and the charcoal we use. There are stacks of paper in the corners and sketches pinned to the walls. The noise from Pankha Road is always there in the background, but when you are busy drawing or painting, you sort of stop hearing it. I spend a lot of time cleaning up brushes and setting out stools for whoever is coming in. It’s not a big corporate school. It’s just a place in Jeevan Park where people can come and try to make something. Sometimes the kids get paint on the floor and it stays there for weeks because I can't scrub it off. We have some old wooden tables that have seen a lot of use. I like the smell of the pencils and the clay. It’s a very different vibe from the usual shops. We don't have fancy air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that hum while we work. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, but that’s when the light is best for seeing the colors. It’s a simple life, just teaching people how to hold a brush and looking at the trees outside the window when I have a spare minute.
