Vizag Steel

Our part of the Vizag Steel plant is located in the DCM (CPS) engineering shops and foundry in the Visakapatnam Steel Plant area. Being out here in Visakhapatnam, we are used to the humidity and the coastal air, though inside the foundry, the heat from the metal is all you really feel. It is a big site, and sometimes it feels like a small city on its own. We handle a lot of the core engineering tasks that keep the bigger parts of the plant moving. The foundry work is particularly intense. You are constantly moving, checking the temperatures, and dealing with the sand and the molds. It is a messy process, and by the end of the day, everyone is ready for a wash. We don't have many frills here. The equipment is heavy and built to last, much like the people who work it. We focus on the practical side of things, making sure the metal goes where it needs to and the shapes are what they should be. It is noisy and dirty, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing a pour go well. We take things one day at a time, managing the maintenance of the shops and the daily output of the foundry. It’s a lot of manual labor, but it’s what we know. The plant has been a part of this area for so long that it just feels like home to most of us.
