Visakhapatnam Steel Plant

If you head over to Sector 8 in Ukkunagaram, you will find our section of the plant. It is a massive area and sometimes it feels like a city of its own. We spend our shifts in 112/C, which is quite a walk from some of the other gates. The air always has that heavy, metallic smell to it, and you can hear the deep rumble of the machinery from miles away. Most of the guys working here have lived in the plant township for their entire careers. We wear our boots and hard hats every single day, and by the end of a shift, they are usually covered in grime. It is not the kind of job where you worry about keeping your clothes clean. We focus on the actual production side of things, making sure the steel is moving through the lines as it should. The Vizag sun can be really brutal when you are working near the furnaces, so we drink a lot of water and try to find a bit of shade when we can. It is hard work, but it’s what keeps this whole region running. We do not have much in the way of a front desk for guests. It is mostly just industrial space and break rooms where we sit and eat our lunch together. Every sector has its own vibe, and Sector 8 is where we have done our work for a long time. It is a busy life, but it feels good to be part of something this big.
