Tata Iron & Steel Co. Ltd.

We are set up on the 3rd floor of the Mukund Suwasa Apartments over in Dwarkanagar. It might seem a bit strange to have a steel company office in an apartment building, but it works for us. Tata Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. has a long history, but this particular office is where we handle the local side of things. It’s mostly desks, computers, and stacks of files. We don’t have the big furnaces or the heavy machinery here; that’s all at the plants. This is where we talk to buyers, manage the supply chain, and handle the administrative side of the metal trade. The elevators are sometimes slow, so we end up taking the stairs quite a bit. It’s a busy neighborhood with shops and houses all mixed together. Our team is small here, and we’ve worked together for a long time. We don't have a fancy reception area with a fountain or anything like that. It’s just a place where we sit down and get the work done. We deal with a lot of phone calls and emails throughout the day, trying to make sure the steel gets to where it needs to go. It’s more about the people and the coordination than anything else. We keep things professional but we aren't robots; we have our jokes and our coffee breaks like everyone else. The view from the third floor isn't much, but it's home for eight hours a day.
