S.V. Refractories & Ceramics

You can find S.V. Refractories & Ceramics at C-19 in the Industrial Estate. We deal with high-temperature materials and ceramic parts. It's a dusty kind of work, but we are used to it. The kilns take a long time to heat up and cool down, so our schedule depends a lot on that. We’ve been in this unit for a long time. It’s not the biggest space, but we have enough room for the molds and the raw materials. People come to us when they need bricks or linings that won't melt under pressure. It’s a specific kind of trade, and not many people do it around here anymore. We spend a lot of time checking the mix of the clay and making sure the shapes are right before they go in the fire. The industrial estate is usually quiet in the evenings, but we sometimes have to stay to watch the temperature gauges. We don’t have a fancy website or a big marketing plan. Mostly, people just know we are here at C-19. We have a few old machines that still work better than the new ones. It’s heavy work, moving the finished pieces around, but we have a good rhythm. The coffee machine in the breakroom is probably the most important piece of equipment after the kilns. We just take it one day at a time. The heat from the furnaces keeps us warm in winter, but summer is a different story altogether. We just keep our heads down and handle the clay.
