Rinl

I work in the Utilities Dept at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, which most people just call Rinl. We are located right here in Vizag. This place is huge, like a city of its own. Our department handles the basic stuff that keeps the rest of the plant running. It’s a lot of pipes, valves, and monitoring systems. You can hear the hum of the plant from miles away. Being near the coast in Vizag means we deal with a lot of humidity and salt in the air, which isn't great for the equipment, but we keep on top of the maintenance. It’s a 24-hour operation, so there is always someone on shift. We see the sun come up over the steel structures and see it go down behind the hills. It’s hard work and it can be dangerous if you aren't paying attention. We don't really think of ourselves as some big corporate entity when we are down in the trenches. We’re just a crew trying to make sure the water and power keep flowing where they need to go. There’s a lot of walking involved because the site is so spread out. Sometimes we grab a quick bite at the canteen and talk about the cricket scores. It’s just regular life in a very large industrial setting. We don’t need a mission statement to know why we show up every morning and put in the time. It is a big job but we manage it okay.
