Ashtray Ispat Nigam Limited is basically situated within the massive grounds of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, under the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd. umbrella. Working out here is a very different experience than being in a city office. The scale of the place is just enormous, and everything feels big—the buildings, the chimneys, and the trucks. You can see the smoke and the fire from the furnaces from miles away. It is quite a long drive from the main part of Vizag to get out here, and the gates are always guarded and busy with workers coming in for their shifts. The air has that distinct metallic tang to it, and there is always a layer of fine dust on everything, no matter how often we clean the desks. Our office is a functional space right in the heart of the plant area, so we are never far from the action. It can get incredibly hot here, especially when the coastal humidity hits, so the air conditioning is probably the most important thing in the room. We don't really have visitors just dropping by because of the security, so it is mostly just us and the plant workers. We spend our days tracking materials and making sure everything is moving through the plant like it should. It is hard, dirty work sometimes, but there is a certain rhythm to it that you get used to after a few months on the job.
