Megu Cafe

Varanasi is full of narrow lanes and we are tucked away in one of them. You can find us at Shop No D-8/1 in Kalika Gali, which is right inside the Vishwanath Gali area. Being so close to the Golden Temple in Dasasumedh means it is always crowded outside. You can hear the bells and the people walking by all day long. Our cafe is quite small, but we make it work. We spend our mornings getting the coffee and snacks ready for whoever wanders in. Sometimes it is pilgrims who are tired from walking and need a place to sit. Other times it is just locals who want a break from the sun. The walls have a few marks and the floor is worn down from all the feet passing through. It gets very hot in the summer, so we do what we can to keep it comfortable inside. There is no big sign or flashing lights here. You just walk down the gali and there we are. We handle everything ourselves, from taking orders to cleaning the tables. It is a busy life in Dasasumedh, but we like being part of the neighborhood. The space is tight, but people don't seem to mind much. We just focus on getting through the day's tasks one by one. It's a simple life running a cafe in a place as old and crowded as this. Most people find us by accident while exploring the lanes around the temple area.
