Hotel Temple On Ganges

Our place is Hotel Temple On Ganges and you can find us at B1/225 in the Assi area of Varanasi. Being this close to the river means things are always a bit humid and the air has that smell of incense and river water. Assi is a busy spot, especially in the early mornings when the sun comes up and people head down to the ghats. We have been in this building for a long time. It’s a typical U.P. structure with some narrow stairs and rooms that aren't perfectly square. We spend a lot of our morning sweeping the front step because the dust from the pilgrims walking by never really stops. It’s not a quiet place, you can always hear a bell ringing somewhere or a boat engine on the water. We don't have a big corporate team, just a few of us who know the 221005 area well. The walls are painted a simple color and we have some plants near the entrance that we try to keep alive despite the heat. Most days involve just sitting near the door and chatting with whoever comes in. We don't use fancy software, just a big ledger book for the most part. It’s a bit old-fashioned but that's how things go around here. You get used to the monkeys on the roof and the sound of the evening prayers drifting in through the windows. It is a slow life, but it has a lot of heart.
