Hotel Barahdari

Staying in Maidagin means you are right in the thick of old Varanasi. Our place, Hotel Barahdari, sits near the G.P.O. and the petrol pump, which is where everyone seems to congregate. The streets around here are narrow and always full of life, cycles, and people heading toward the ghats or the markets. It is a bit of a maze if you aren't used to it. The building itself has been part of this area for a long time. We do not have those big glass windows like the new hotels on the outskirts. Instead, we have thick walls and a lot of history in the bricks. Sometimes the plumbing acts up because the pipes are old, but we get it fixed as fast as we can. It is a family-run kind of feel here. We know the neighbors and the guys at the petrol pump quite well. Guests usually come here because they want to be close to the heart of the city without spending a fortune. It is noisy, especially during festival times, but that is just the soul of Banaras. We do not offer much in terms of luxury, just a roof over your head and a door that locks. My staff stays busy with the laundry and keeping the floors swept. If you are looking for a polished corporate experience, this probably isn't it.
