Our workshop is over at Plot No. 297/12 in the G.I.D.C. zone. If you have ever been to a G.I.D.C., you know exactly what it’s like. It’s a lot of grey buildings, trucks moving back and forth, and the sound of manufacturing everywhere. Vj Engineering Work is just one of the many plots in this sector. We have a large open area where we do the fabrication and repair jobs. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings and some oil spots that never quite come out. We don’t have a lobby or a fancy entrance. You just walk through the big sliding doors and you’re in the middle of the work area. There’s a small cabin built into one corner where we keep the computer and the billing books. It’s hot in the summer because the roof is just corrugated metal, but we have a few big fans to keep the air moving. We spend most of our time wearing overalls and working with our hands. It’s not the kind of job where you stay clean. The G.I.D.C. is a long way from the residential parts of town, so we usually bring our lunch or get something from the local carts that come around. It’s hard work, but it’s what we do. We just keep the machines running and handle whatever jobs come through the gate each morning.
