Thakur Saree Centre

Thakur Saree Centre is based in the Concord building in Alkapuri. It’s a well-known area, and the building is easy enough to find once you’re in the neighborhood. We spend our days surrounded by sarees of every color you can imagine. It’s a lot of folding and unfolding, showing the patterns to whoever walks in. Alkapuri is a bit more upscale than some other parts of town, but our shop is pretty down-to-earth. We don’t have any of those fancy mannequins or high-end lighting systems. We just use the natural light from the front windows when we can. My aunt started this place, and now a few of us keep it running. We have stacks of boxes reaching up to the ceiling. Sometimes it feels like a maze in here. Customers come in looking for something specific for a wedding or a party, and we spend time digging through the shelves to find that one piece. We aren’t interested in being a big chain. We just like our spot here in the Concord. The floor is a bit scuffed from all the foot traffic over the years, but that just shows we’ve been busy. We take things one day at a time, making sure the sarees are kept clean and the customers are treated like neighbors. It gets a bit crowded on Saturday afternoons, but we just bring out more stools and make it work.
