Shree Janta Ice Cream

Most days here at Shree Janta Ice Cream start pretty early. We have to get the machines going and make sure the freezers are holding the right temperature before the sun gets too high over Sayajigun Magadi Road. It's a small spot, S/1-2, but it stays busy enough. We spend a lot of time just refilling tubs and wiping down the counters after the school kids leave. It's not a fancy place by any means. There are plenty of chairs but they don't always match. We’ve been here a while now, watching the traffic go by outside on the main road. Sometimes the power cuts out and we have to scramble with the generator, which is a real headache but that's just how it goes in this part of town. People come in looking for something cold after a long walk, and we just dish it out. We don't really do much advertising or anything like that. Most folks find us because they live nearby or they’ve been coming since they were little. The menu hasn't changed much over the years because people seem to like things the way they are. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff by evening, especially on weekends when it’s hot out. We just try to keep things clean and keep the fridge running. It’s simple work, mostly just scooping and chatting with the regulars who stop by to say hello while they eat. It's nothing special but it's ours and we like it here.
