Saheli Saree

Our shop is tucked away behind the Shubash Shopping Center in the Mmrda Colony here in Vadodara. It isn't right on the main road, so you have to look for us a little bit once you get into the colony area. We have been in this spot for a while now. Most of the people who come in live nearby or they have been visiting us for years. We mostly have sarees of all kinds spread out on the counters. It gets a bit crowded in the afternoons when the sun is hot and everyone wants to be inside where it is cooler. We don't have a big team or anything, just a few of us who know the sarees well. We spend the mornings unpacking new bundles and checking the threads. Vadodara is a good place to be, and this neighborhood is usually quite friendly. We like the fact that it feels like a community shop. People stop by to chat even if they aren't buying anything that day. We try to keep things straightforward and honest with everyone. If a saree has a small pull or the color isn't quite right for someone, we just say so. There is no point in making things sound better than they are. We just want to keep the shop running and make sure the shelves are full. It is a lot of folding and unfolding every day, but that is what we do to make a living here.
