Workshop noise is usually the first thing you notice here in Makarpura GIDC once the machines get going. Plot 359/B/8 is easy enough to find if you know this part of the industrial estate. Most of our day is spent around metal and grease. Grease and metal mean it’s not a clean environment, but it’s where the work happens. Lathes and some other equipment take up most of the floor space. Slippery floors from the coolant mean you have to watch your step. Handling small parts and custom jobs for local factories is our main task. Handfuls of us work here together. Starting early is necessary before the sun gets too hot because the tin roof makes the shed feel like an oven. Tea stalls down the road provide the drinks we need to get through the afternoon. Our desks are covered in drawings and old oily rags. Stools and an old bench are what we sit on when things are running. Marketing isn't really something we do. Word of mouth in the GIDC area is how people hear about us. Machine breakdowns change the whole day, and we spend hours trying to fix things with whatever tools we have on hand. Life at R.K. Engi-Tech is just about keeping the equipment moving.
