Turnweld Engineers

Our workshop is located at Plot No. 245 in the GIDC Industrial Estate, and it’s a pretty standard setup for this area. Turnweld Engineers is basically what the name says—we spend our days turning metal on lathes and welding pieces together. The shed is old, and the walls have seen better days, but the equipment inside is kept in good working order because that’s what pays the bills. There is always a layer of fine dust and metal shavings on the floor, no matter how much we sweep. We have a few heavy workbenches that have been around since the beginning, and they are dented and stained from thousands of different jobs. Working in the GIDC means we are surrounded by the sound of other factories, which creates a constant background noise that you eventually just stop hearing. We don't have a fancy showroom or a website that we update. Most people just know us from being in the estate for so long. Sometimes we have to work late to get a job finished, and the light from the welding torches is the only thing you can see from the street. It’s a simple way of making a living. We show up, put on our overalls, and get to work until it’s time to lock up the gate and head home. We usually have a bit of a chat with the guard before we leave. It’s a tight community in the estate, so we all look out for each other.
